The Effects of Sound Speed Profile to the Convergence Zone in Deep Water

The structure of a sound speed profile (SSP) in deep water causes refraction rays and Convergence Zones (CZs) high intensity where the focus at shallow depth. Study field characteristics CZs has always been deep-water acoustics research. Many studies have conducted on propagation different parts oceans with environments and, this paper, range width CZ is analyzed East Indian Ocean (EIO) South China Sea (SCS). Through experimental data collected seasons conditions change EIO SCS, we observe that SSPs marine significant impact water. channel mixing layer isothermal great effect ranges. depths two areas are similar, first 7–8 km farther than about 2–3 narrower SCS. surface mixed thermocline affect but little when source bottom practically same. As along EIO, almost same, summer 2 spring. depth affects if can be formed. between SCS explained by both theoretical calculation numerical simulation. influence SSP corresponding mechanism explained. research results significance for underwater acoustic detection sea.
